The Hampstead Players aim to kindle an enthusiasm and love for theatre by presenting shows in which the audience can participate. Their unique approach uses mainly classical or historical plays, which educate while entertaining and uses audience participation to eliminate the distance between actor and audience. By being part of the performance the children become more involved, more attentive and enjoy themselves while absorbing educational subjects.
Each season, the Hampstead Players tour several productions. Past performances have included adaptations of works by Charles Dickens and William Shakespeare, Greek mythology, Native American tales, and other legends and adventures. Please inquire about upcoming performances.
Each show is performed by two actors, each playing several roles and each includes some children from the audience. The sets, costumes and props are realistic and based on historic research.
Prince Caspian (1-12) Fall 2008: The exciting sequel to last year's "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," This play follows the adventures of the Pevensie children when they return to Narnia, many years after they ruled as kings and queens there. The children join with a resistance force of disenfranchised Narnians to return Prince Caspian, the rightful King of Narnia, to the throne. A Christmas Carol (K-8) Fall 2008. Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" is a story that is both timeless and universal. In our adaptation we have tried to keep very much to the original in both message and form. It is a charming and heart-warming story, a far cry from the commercialism that has, in recent years, gone hand-in-hand with Christmas. Greek Mythology (K-8) Spring 2009: A spellbinding and humorous look at the exploits and foible of the Greek gods of ancient myth. Pinocchio (K-8) Spring 2009: A fun and spirited dramatization of the beloved Italian tale about a wooden puppet who encounters many a challenge in his quest to become " a real boy." |
