Japanese born multi-discipline artist, Shizumi Manale gives students a view of Japanese culture, art, and the performing arts old and new. Dressed in traditional kimono, Shizumi portrays a traditional Japanese dancer/actor and transforms on stage to a modern Japanese artist.
Exploring the Arts of Japan and Opening Minds (K-12) includes traditional Japanese dance, modern dance, masks, calligraphy, song and poetry all interwoven with Japanese folktales and theater. Students will enjoy participating in dance techniques, and will experience sword fighting.
Shizumi also offers this program as a workshop where small groups explore Japanese art forms of kimonos, calligraphy, haiku, origami, tea and flower ceremonies, swordsmanship, dance and drama. Students will also learn about the cultural connections between Japan, China, Korea, and India. |
